So I mentioned in MVP2, that we went to bed early because we had an early flight. Well right before we got into bed I pulled out our itinerary to double check our flight time and saw that I was looking at the wrong itinerary when we planned for the 6am flight. To explain how I could have made such a mistake, let me tell you about our travel plan. We did 1 roundtrip ticket from Tokyo to Kuala Lumpur, then another round trip ticket from KL to Langkawi. So basically we fly from Tokyo to KL, then to Langawi, then to KL, then back to Tokyo. We actually had a 2pm flight to Langkawi and the 6am flight I was looking at was for our return trip back to Japan from KL. I just saw KL International Airport and thought that was the flight- woops! So bonus for us- we had a full morning before we had to leave for the airport! We rescheduled our taxi pickup and slept great :-)
The next morning we woke up just after 8 and had another great hotel breakfast. We had some time before our taxi pickup so we were able to enjoy the hotel pool a bit before we left, which I was so happy about! Its a beautiful infinity edge pool with a view of the Petronas Towers. Sadly the bar was closed, so no pool mimosas for us, but we still had fun relaxing.
See why I was so excited about the pool?! Anyways, after the pool we packed up and headed to the airport. We booked our ride with the same driver that drove us from the airport at our arrival, but a different man showed up, saying his friend couldn't make it. We didn't mind though, because he was on time and charged the same amount. I'm still amazed a 1 hour cab ride to the airport only cost about $35 for the two of us. We were flying out of the low cost carrier terminal, which is different from KLIA, so it was a new experience. It was much smaller, louder, crowded, and overall chaos compared to our arrival at KLIA. It was a confusing check-in process but we figured it out. Your bags went thru a screening before you even checked them, so that was strange! We also tried Malaysian McDonalds... bad idea. It was worse than the states. Japan definitely wins so far in my McDonalds experiences.
After lunch we found our gate and waited to board our flight. They had you walk outside to find your airplane but nobody seemed to be leading the group, so it seemed like we were just randomly walking around outside. It was so odd, but eventually we got to our airplane. We flew Air Asia which reminded us of Southwest Airlines, except they fly A320s instead of B737s (boo, hiss). The flight was about an hour and we could see out the window just about the whole time.
We landed in Langkawi and took a hired taxi to our resort. The resort was called Berjaya and took up a whole point on the western edge of the Island. Compared to the very country, rustic look of parts of the island (was that cow I just saw on the side of the road? nope, it was a goat...), the resort was just beautiful. It had great landscaping and a really neat atmosphere. The main lobby is open air, but stayed fairly cool with lots of ceiling fans.
We easily checked in and were shuttled to our private hut in the jungle. It was so awesome! Very rustic, not updated lately, but it was clean and private, and just awesome.
The only complaint, if I can even say I'm complaining, is that the bathroom could've used a good update. It was old, chipped, and just not very pretty. BUT it was clean and everything worked, so we were happy. Overall, we were very happy with our lodging. It was amazing that all this was so affordable! I felt like I was in paradise :-)
After we checked out the room and settled in a bit, we decided to explore the lobby area a bit. We went to the bar and had our first island cocktails.
As it turns out, I think we spent some time at least every day in the lobby bar- either having cocktails in the evenings, coffee in the morning, or just playing scrabble on a rainy day (more on that to come...). After that we walked around the pool area then out to the private beach. It was so beautiful! It was a little gray and drizzly outside, but still nice and warm. The tide was low so we were able to walk along the beach all the way to another resort, and had another cocktail at their beach side restaurant. We even saw somebody making a movie out on the beach while we were there. It looked very Bollywood-esque with the ethnicity of the crew. But they were just shooting some scene with the beachy backround- nothing too exciting so we moved on. Here are some pictures of the beach area.

We walked back to the resort in the dark, but the beach was still so pretty. The tide was higher so we had to wade in the water up to our knees at one point to get back to the Berjaya's private beach. We ate some dinner at the Deyang Cafe, which is the main lobby restaurant at the resort. We both liked our meal and were very surprised that the resort's prices were reasonable for both food and drinks- score! We both decided to call it a night and headed back to the hut to sleep. It was a great day, and not even our first full day on the island. Awesome!
